The holidays are often a time of celebration and family togetherness, but divorce can dampen the a joyful time. Divorce can cause emotional stress as well as legal and financial challenges. Newly single spouses often find themselves in uncertain positions, with future income and child custody just two of the concerns facing them.
Teresa Giudice of the television program "Real Housewives of New Jersey" plans to divorce her husband after the holidays. According to a report published on NJ.com, Giudice, her husband and their three girls plan to remain together until after the holidays end. Then Giudice plans to go through with the divorce regardless of the results of her husband's trial, in which he faces charges related to possession of fraudulent identification.
According to the report, the final incident leading to the divorce occurred when Giudice's husband called her cruel names during an aired telephone conversation. Unstable income and cheating reportedly added to the couple's troubles.
It remains unclear how this celebrity couple's divorce will play out or what sort of legal issues the pair may face. Some common factors to work out in a divorce are child custody, child support and property division. Like any couple facing divorce, Giudice and her husband could choose to settle their issues out of court with mediation or, if they cannot reach an agreement, they may go to court to work out any issues.
People in this situation should know their rights and be aware of state laws regarding the division of assets as well as those dealing with child custody, support and visitation.
